Week 1: March 21-25: Welcome to 4th quarter. We are officially beginning Earth in Space for our Astronomy Unit.
We are studying the seasons from diagrams: angles of light and photoperiods make the seasons because of our tilted axis as our Earth revolves around the sun. Study vocab 12, and notes. Tests next week. We sent home a letter about Parent Project #2. Students are encouraged to participate and to get parent signature of the letter for a homework grade. This extra credit opportunity requires a parent to participate by following your child's progress or providing them enriching opportunities to learn more about what they are interested in Earth Science. Please see the note sent home 3-23. Signatures needed by 3/30 please. See parent project letter below.
Week 2: March 27- 31: This week we are finalizing our understanding of the seasons and moon phases. We have a seasons diagram quiz and Vocab list 12 Test (Wed 3-29). Also Vocab homework is due that day. Please study all notes and diagrams. We are moving quickly to get everything in! Parent project ideas added below!
Week 3: April 10-14: This week we are connecting our knowledge of moon phases, with eclipses. We are also learning about the moon in detail. Its rotation = its revolution. Really cool. We are also studying geocentric and heliocentric models. How did we figure out how our solar system is organized? Please finish list 13. We have a test Friday on Earth, moon and Sun (tides, eclipses, seasons, moon phase) questions multiple choice, eclipse and moon phase diagram, and list 13. If we do not finish, we will finish this on Monday of next week. I am still accepting parent project signatures showing your parent has seen the project information sheet. If you need to pick up a new one, see me!
Week 4: April 17-21- There was no homework this week due to Milestones testing. We have been continuing to learn about space and have learned about space exploration.-specifically the International Space Station.
Week 5: April 24-28: This week continue working with list 14. We are learning details about our solar system. Students who need to restudy seasons diagrams, moon phases, or eclipses may pick up a study guide to retake any tests. Progress reports go on IC this week. We will have an inner planet quiz, outer planet quiz next week.
Week 6: May 1-5: This week we are continuing to learn about the planets and comparing them to Earth. We will then study the types of galaxies and our Milky Way. Be prepared for a mini quiz on inner planets, outer planets and list 14 test Friday. List 14 will be checked Friday May 5. Parent projects are due this week. Please complete and let me know if you have any questions.
Week 7: May 8-12 This week we have an astronomer visit for two days. Continue to study list 14, finish it and begin list 15. One extra week given for parent projects. Study your astronomy study guide and your exam study guide (E50).
Week 8: May 15-19: We have a test on list 14 and astronomy multiple choice. It covers planets, galaxies, comets, meteors and asteroid. We are studying energy and making solar boxes. Thank you for the donations of the s'more supplies. All students who donated will get an extra 100 for a homework grade.
Week 9 May 22-26 Please study for exam. We are having our last open journal quiz on Monday and list 15 is due Monday also. Exam is Thursday. We are finishing our study on energy and reviewing fossils. I am going to miss each and every one of you. Enjoy your summer break and good luck in 7th grade.
