Week of August 3-5
Wed:  Get all papers signed. Students and parents read syllabus.
Thurs:  Start to learn vocabulary list #1.  Write word and definition in vocabulary section of Journal/ Vocabulary Composition Book.  Number each word, write definition, and draw a picture to help you remember the definition. 
Fri- Enjoy the Olympics.  Quiz on List #1 will be tentatively Wed Aug 10.  I will take up vocab list #1 then also. You will turn in your composition book at that time

Week #2 Aug 8-12 This week we are continuing to introduce the characteristics of scientists, scientific inquiry, metric measurement.  We are studying solid and liquid volume, mass, density., energy, matter, and elements.  We will be quickly moving into landforms and geographic regions of Georgia, and how we learn. We will begin minerals next week. Computer lab Friday to do an online yearly pretest and set up schoology, etc. 
Monday: Please correct Hydro it was misspelled on the list
Tuesday: .Finish Vocabulary list #1 (#, Word, Definition- (complete definition), illustration).  Remember color and thoughtful effort add points. Test list #1 now on Friday Aug 12.  Also Study any notes from E1 from class.
Wednesday: Continue the same as Tuesday.  Also please try to join Remind.  text @claytonyms to 81010
Thursday:  Test tomorrow list #1.  Vocab list due tomorrow
Friday: Test today vocab #1.  

Week #3 Aug 15-19:  Students have been given back their vocab and journals . Students who needed clarification of how to do the assignments have met with Mrs. Clayton. This week we are getting some hands on experience with volume (solid and liquid), volume of irregular objects, mass, and density. 
Monday: No homework
Tuesday: Study E1-E3. Complete crossword (try without word bank) on back of E3. 
Wednesday: Same as Tues
Thursday: Start list #2 on Minerals.  Continue to work on crossword. Word bank is now available on schoology. and under introduction to Earth Science unit. 
Friday: Study list #2. We will have a mineral vocab and test next Friday.  We will need to bring an empty cereal box to school for a rock activity for the week of Aug 29-Sept 2

Week #4 Aug 22-27 : This week I had a substitute Monday and Tuesday due to a meeting I had to attend.  We are learning about the definition of a mineral and how to identify it. What are the characteristics of minerals? How do they make rocks? and How are they important?  Look on Schoology for the mineral blendspace!
Monday- finish cross word puzzle and vocab list #2
Tuesday- Test postponed until next week for vocab list #2 and Minerals.
Wed- same as Tuesday
Thursday- words should be finished for list #2, study all notes

Week #5 Aug 29- Sept 2: This week we finished and reviewed about minerals.  We have been learning about Ga's landform regions so we can connect with rocks and minerals from those areas soon.
Monday- study for minerals test, voc 2 due Wed
Tuesday- test tomorrow list #2 and minerals
Wed- start list #3 and study any notes on Rocks
Thurs- same as Wed

Week #6 Sept 6-Sept 9: This week we are focusing on how minerals make rocks and the three types of rocks. We started with igneous. We have looked at granite, basalt, andesite, obsidian, pumice and scoria. We are tying this type of rock into the rock cycle.
Monday: labor Day holiday
Tuesday: make sure all voc 3 definitions are finishing up. Do the illustrations as we learn it in class. Study all notes from E4-E5 and journal foldable notes in class.
Wed: Mini quiz on landforms tomorrow
Thurs: Mini quiz on igneous rocks tomorrow.  Voc 3 Test next week and rock classification test next Friday.

Week #7 Sept 12-16:  This week we are studying sedimentary rocks- Monday- clastic sedimentary rocks are made of other rocks,. We discussed weathering, erosion, deposition, compaction, and cementation. We looked at examples of conglomerate (rounded) and breccia (jagged) clastic , and shale sedimentary rocks. Tuesday- Chemical sedimentary rocks. Today we wrote our compare and contrast igneous intrusive vs extrusive three paragraph summary essay. We also made crystals with borax and water. We learned about the mineral borax and the poor mules. Wednesday - today we studied organic sedimentary rocks and looked at limestone from NW GA, and coal. Thurs- Metamorphic Rocks- Slate from Rockmart Ga.
Friday-Rock cycle. 

Monday: Study E3, E4, E5, and E6.  Finish Vocab list #3- Due Wed Sept 21.
Tuesday: Same as Monday. Test next Wed Sept 21 on rocks, Rock classification- types, and vocab list #3. (some mineral questions as well)
Wednesday: Same as Tuesday
Thursday: Mini sedimentary quiz tomorrow.
Friday: mini sedimentary quiz today.

Week #8 Sept 19-23: This week we are finishing rocks and the rock cycle. We will have test this week. We are starting physical and chemical weathering. We will be studying about soil horizons and formation. Happy Autumnal Equinox Thursday 9-22
Monday: Study all notes (E4- E6) and journal. All vocab should be done due Wed.  Test Wed 9-21 on voc 3, rock classificaiton (E5) and rocks and minerals. 
Tuesday: Test tomorrow
Wed: Vocab list#3 definitions and illustrations due. Test on Classification of rocks and general questions about rocks and minerals.
 Thursday: start vocab list #4  Students are given a sheet describing a family involved geology exploration extra credit opportunity. Please show your parents this yellow sheet. Due by Oct 21.
